Stop the Roe v. Wade of Marriage
By Mike McManus
“Like a tank in Tiananmen Square, the homosexual agenda has
run over us,” says Janet Folger Porter in her compelling new film which David
Barton says “may be the most important documentary on marriage yet.”
Barton, the founder of Wallbuilders, asserts in the film that “Jesus clearly
taught in Matthew 19 that marriage is a lifelong union of one man and one
Yet the Supreme Court seems headed toward ruling that same-sex marriage is
constitutional. Porter calls the decision “the Roe v. Wade of marriage” – a
definitive ruling that could make Christian believers targets of gay activists.
That happened to florist Barronelle Stutzman this week. A judge in Washington
state ruled her refusal to sell flower arrangements for a gay couple’s wedding
violated state anti-discrimination law.
An Alliance for Freedom attorney for Stutzman said “You put your home, your
family business and your life savings at risk by daring to defy a government
mandate that forces you to promote views you believe are wrong.”
This is an example of what the film calls a “battle between Darkness and Light.”
Yet the DVD’s title is “Light Wins.”
It is a message we need to hear, and it is articulated by some of America’s most
respected voices on marriage: Dr. James Dobson, Gov. Mike Huckabee, Tim Wildmon
and Phyllis Schlafly (who just celebrated her 90th birthday).
Several former homosexuals are featured. Gary Quinlan asserts, “It is a lie that
I was born this way. It’s not true. I don’t have to be this way.” We see Gary
Shankelton playing with his small children, who says, “I was 30 before we
started having kids. I could have continued to live for myself, and missed all
of this,” as his kids play.
Thousands of former gays have come out of that destructive lifestyle.
Dr. John Diggs, a black pastor, argues: “They cannot consummate a marriage. The
fact we change the law does not change that reality.”
Dr. Dobson said the issue is bigger than marriage – “the legal right to express
our faith and enjoy freedom of speech.”
Gary Bauer, President of American Values, reflected, “This is a long term
battle. The same-sex side lost 36 votes in a row in every state, yet they did
not bail out. They stayed in the battle,” with the clear implication that
opponents of gay marriage must also make a commitment for the long haul.
A pastor promises, “God is not going to abandon you.”
However, what practical steps can Christians take?
Porter’s most important suggestion is to “Restrain the Judges.” With the click
of a button on http//RestrainTheJudges.com, you can send a printed, personalized
“Restraining Order” to the Supreme Court (and every Member of Congress), which
blocks the Court’s right to overturn state constitutional amendments upholding
“the sacred institution of marriage between one man and one woman.”
Look at Article 3, Section 2 of the Constitution, which states “The Supreme
Court shall have appellate jurisdiction both as to law and fact, with such
exceptions as the Congress shall make.”
Congress has the power to limit the jurisdiction of the U.S. Supreme Court! It
can draft a bill to restrain the Supreme Court from “undermining marriage any
I was unaware of this possibility.
In an interview, Ms. Porter noted that Congress had used this power to restrain
the Court’s authority over a case involving brush fires in South Dakota.
“Marriage is more important than brush fires in South Dakota,” she correctly
A second strategy is her urging Congress to demand that Justices Ginsburg and
Kagan recuse themselves, to withdraw from the case, since they have both
performed same-sex weddings – and have a clear bias on the issue.
Finally, Ms. Porter urges Americans to buy the movie, “Light Wins,” which you
could show to your church to gain more public support for “Restraining The
Judges. How? Use this link to see a 9 minute excerpt of the film at no cost:
If you are impressed, buy the actual film and become a soldier in the army of
citizens demanding that state constitutional amendments upholding marriage as
the union of one man and one woman be upheld.
Perhaps 50 million people voted for 30 constitutional amendments limiting
marriage to couples of opposite genders. Judges have overturned most of those
However, Janet Folger Porter has put a light on the path for Americans to
overturn those unjust court decisions.
She is right. “In the battle between Darkness and Light…Light Wins.”
